Who we are

“SOS Catastrophes – European Disaster Victims Network” is an International Non-Profit Association established under the laws of Belgium.

Created by victims for victims

It was created in 2013 by various victims’ associations as well as by victims from European countries, i.e., family members of a wounded or dead victim along with survivors. It pursues non-profit goals of international scope on behalf of any victim of a disaster occurring in a European country, or on behalf of any European citizen who is victim of a disaster arising in the rest of the world.

Board of directors

The Network is administrated by a Board of Directors composed of at least four members and no more than twelve members called ‘‘Directors’’ elected for a period of three years.

SOS Catastrophes – European Disaster Victims Network is currently administered by the following Board of Directors:

President: Stephane GICQUEL (France).
Vice-presidents: Pilar VERA (Spain) and Paolo PETTINAROLI (Italia).
Secretary: John CLEMES (UK).
Treasurer: Pierre-Etienne DENIS (France).
Member: Mireille PORREWECK (Belgium)

Comittees

To ensure the realization of the Network’s objectives, thematic committees may be set up. The first committees shall be permanent technical committees responsible for the Network’s operations, and may include committees focused on Communication, Legal, and preparation of the General assembly etc.
These may also include thematic committees corresponding to one or more actions undertaken in pursuit of the Network’s objective.

The legal comittee is coordinated by Anna KONERT (Poland)

Who can be member ?

Members of the European Disaster Victims Network are natural persons who are nationals or residents of a European country and NGOs constituted pursuant to the laws and the customs of a European county.

The Network is composed of four categories of members: full members, support members, associate members and invited members:

Full membership is open to NGOs including victims of one or several disasters and individual victims supporting the mission and objectives of the Network.
Support membership is open to individual victims who wish support the missions and objectives of the Network, without active participating in its operation.
Associate membership is open to natural persons or NGOs having shown an interest in the victims of disasters, and whose activities are in connection with the missions and objectives of the Network, with active participating in the Network’s operation, within the limits of one "associate member" by European country.
Natural persons or NGOs having shown an interest for the victims of disasters, and whose activities are in connection with the missions and objectives of the Network, are invited to join the association as an “invited member”.

Important : the creation of the European Disaster Victims Network does, by no means, intend to replace local actions of existing national structures. The Network aims to participate within the current system as point of relay and coordination between victims.
